Math Formulas Commonly used in the Retail Supply Chain

Just like the title states, these are basic formulas used throughout the retail supply chain to manage inventory, measure sales, etc.

Average Inventory

Average Inventory (Month) = (Beginning of Month Inventory + End of Month Inventory) ÷ 2

Basic Retailing Formula

Cost of Goods + Markup = Retail Price
Retail Price - Cost of Goods = Markup
Retail Price - Markup = Cost of Goods

Break-Even Analysis

Break-Even ($) = Fixed Costs ÷ Gross Margin Percentage

Contribution Margin

Contribution Margin = Total Sales - Variable Costs

Cost of Goods Sold

COGS = Beginning Inventory + Purchases - Ending Inventory

Gross Margin

Gross Margin = Total Sales - Cost of Goods

Gross Margin Return on Investment

GMROI = Gross Margin $ ÷ Average Inventory Cost

Initial Markup Initial Markup % = (Expenses + Reductions + Profit) ÷ (Net Sales + Reductions) Inventory Turnover (Stock Turn or inventory turn)

Turnover = Net Sales ÷ Average Retail Stock

Maintained Markup

MM $ = (Original Retail - Reductions) - Cost of Goods Sold
MM % = Maintained Markup $ ÷ Net Sales Amount

Margin %

Margin % = (Retail Price - Cost) ÷ Retail Price

Markup

Markup $ = Retail Price - Cost
Markup % = Markup Amount ÷ Retail Price

Net Sales

Net Sales = Gross Sales - Returns and Allowances

Open to Buy

OTB (retail) = Planned Sales + Planned Markdowns + Planned End of Month Inventory - Planned Beginning of Month Inventory

Reductions

Reductions = Markdowns + Employee Discounts + Customer Discounts + Stock Shortages

Sales per Square Foot

Sales per Square Foot = Total Net Sales ÷ Square Feet of Selling Space

Stock to Sales Ratio

Stock-to-Sales = Beginning of Month Stock ÷ Sales for the Month

Can not Downgrade from Vista to XP on laptop. Please help.?
Alright. I've been trying to downgrade this laptop for my girlfriend because she wants it downgraded to XP. I have the XP disc and the Vista disc with me. I've tried formatting the HD. Partitioning it to have Vista on one and XP on the other, and every time I get this error: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-Supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3." F3 of course restarts the computer. Now I know there is a HD in there that is indeed powering up, but for some reason it's not powering up, (maybe?) when I'm using the XP disc. How do I fix this, as I've looked around on the internet for a while and couldn't find anything that worked. The model of the laptop is an HP dv6149us if that helps in any way. Everything inside of it is what came with it, except the ram had to be replaced because it fried.

when i'm installing windows xp this message always come up; "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. This may involve running a manufacturer - supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3 " The bios does not say anything about SATA drives, only IDE. A step-by-step procedure would be nice.
